Me, doing chalk art

In April, I enjoyed participating in “Chalk It Up,” a day of chalk art to benefit the South Bay Hands on Art programs in the Redondo Beach Schools. A Scottish man was taking video, and I knew it would eventually turn up online–and it has! Here’s me, towards the end of my work on a 5×5 recreation of a Frida Kahlo self-portrait. I’m the first interview on the video–Nell’s the pink t-shirt in the background.

Very cool. Aidan watched it with me. I love the braids 🙂

So odd to hear your voice for the first time…it doesn’t match the one I hear in my head when I think of you speaking. Originally, I always thought you would speak rather spritely with a British accent (yeah, I know, completely illogical), and once you corrected THAT misconception, I replaced the British voice with a sort of slow, easy, California-style reflective voice. I know — again completely illogical! — but for some reason I never imagine YOU sounding like Scranton….

Hey now, Jujyfruit, I do not sound like Scranton… much… but the fast talking is Northeastern, I’ll admit that.

The braids, yeah, good for spending the day with your face six inches from hot pavement. But I’m wearing braids right now too–it’s summer, eh?
